August Component of the Month Design Challenge Reveal

I've got to blog fast today. I left my charger at home and the computer is quickly dying! It's going to be short and sweet. Melissa Meman hosted the Art Jewelry Elements design challenge for August. I LOVE the round Dogwood flower piece I got! LOVE it! [caption id="attachment_2334" align="aligncenter" width="486"]morsels Melissa Meman's fabulous components.[/caption]   My husband and I fell in love with the Dogwood tree when we lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina...because they were everywhere you looked and spring in WS was just stunning. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Dogwood tree Jen Cameron This is our dogwood tree in bloom this past spring.[/caption] August is also my birth month. And this year was a biggie in terms of round numbers...I turned 40. No, I'm not depressed or anything, being 40 is just a really alien concept when you still feel like you're 27. Anyway, I decided to make this piece really special and keep it for myself. I used some of my stash of Roman glass (I totally hoard it and periodically get it out just to look and touch), some peridot to celebrate my birth month, blue fluorite, and a vintage rhinestone clasp. I used some of my headpins left over from Bead Fest to attach the Roman glass to the sterling silver domed disc.

As you can see, I still need to add a second strand. Originally I was thinking rhinestone chain and/or dark brown leather cord. But now I'm not sure. Maybe I will do a second beaded strand. What do you think? Please visit the other designers to see what they came up with: Guests: Perri Jackson Hope Smitherman Monique Urquhart AJE Team: Jennifer Cameron <-----you are here! Oh wow! That is really a super stunning necklace! I'm taken with how you were able to get that Roman glass bunched up so beautifully just above the pendant. Fabulous job!

This is so pretty. What a nice gift for yourself. I love roman glass and have to get some. I think a nice piece of leather would be a good second strand, but this necklace is beautiful - anything you add will work.

So beautiful and DRAMATIC, Jen... what a beautiful birthday gift to give yourself! As for adding a strand, I am such a fiber addict, I think leather would look great, maybe in a subtle colour wash to echo your beads. Or silk ribbon with metallic threads... yum!

Amazing photos, too!

Goodness that is a gorgeous pendant! Happy birthday to you! I am an August baby too and I just passed another milestone - 45 - and I think this one is hitting me a lot harder than 40 ever did! Your necklace is gorgeous and a wonderful present to yourself! I am so partial to the key. I will hunt down who got that one! Enjoy the day. Erin

Wow that is one stunning piece!! That Roman glass along with all the other lovelies including Melissa's component is gorgeous!!

I love the sparkling bundle of beads above the beautiful focal. What an elegant necklace!!!

A beautiful birthday present, for sure. I love how you bunched the Roman glass together, and your pins are just lovely. Very elegant piece! Looking forward to seeing what you'll decide to do for the 2nd strand :)

Linda Landig

What a beautiful necklace-as unique and special as you are on your birthday (and always!). I think some fairy silk would look lovely as a 2nd strand.

Melissa Meman

Jen...this is absolutely gorgeous! I would wear this all the time. That roman glass is to die for...must get some. THank you so much for working with my components and believing in me enough to include me on the blog! I love AJE!

Perri Jackson

Happy birthday, Jen! A lovely and special piece! I think a second chain with a few bits of silk tied or woven in would look lovely!

OMG WHAT A GORGEOUS PIECE!!!!!!!! I am in awe of your design skills!

Egads! Thats a delicious cluster of lovely. As to the second strand - leather might be too contrasty - too earthy. But I wouldnt add more beads - let it shine the way it is - maybe chain - antique brass finish to partner with the flower in the focal?
